Spirit Mountain Winds Down With A Luau March 14

Kids have fun at Minnesota's Spirit Mountain. Kids have fun at Minnesota's Spirit Mountain.

Spirit Mountain, overlooking Duluth's beautiful Lake Superior harbor, has tentatively set its closing date for the last Sunday in March with reduced spring hours - 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. - kicking in March 23. It's been such a great season it's hard to think about it coming to an end, but in the meantime they have a couple of great events scheduled to take place next month.

March 7-8 is a USASA competition. Snowboarders compete in a double halfpipe competition Saturday and slopestyle Sunday. The superpipe will be closed to the general public most of the day that Saturday, but the SoBe Terrain Park will be open. The superpipe will be back open to the public Sunday, but a portion of the terrain park will be closed. It will be worth it to watch the competition. This is one of the best in the Midwest.

The Midwest Master's Spring Fling Race takes place March 14-15. The Spring Break Luau takes place that Saturday with lots of slopeside activities and competitions. There will be prizes for the best costume. They've had a Jimmy Buffet clone band in the past playing in the Moosehead Saloon; parrotheads allowed.

You can log on for a complete list of times and events.
