The day has finally arrived for the “skiwis” of New Zealand. Coronet Peak is first ski resort to open in Australasia. The resort started turning its lifts today thanks in large part to cooler recent temperatures and extensive snow-making capabilities.
The resort will be spinning four lifts with accompanying trails, including Million Dollar, the M1 and Big Easy. A mix of corduroy and bare spots are to be expected, but at least the resort is opening up, getting the season underway.
Various resorts in Australia were set to open today, but warmer temperatures have delayed snowmaking abilities. Thredbo and Perisher are the only Australian resorts set to open this weekend, but poor conditions will delay some terrain.
