Costumes, craziness and classic skiing events will be all over the slopes of Powderhorn outside of Grand Junction for closing weekend, March 29-30. They’re calling it a Margaritaville Weekend, complete with grass skirts and flowered shirts. Of course, margaritas will be there as well. Celebrate a super season with plenty of powder as the slopes close for the summer.
Events at Powderhorn closing weekend include the Slush Sprocket Race, which involves a bicycle up at the top of Bill’s Run and bashing through the slush and the gates to the bottom of the course. The Pond Skim is another classic as colorfully costumed characters try to clear the freezing cold pool of icy slushy water at the bottom. There’s always the Pig Roast at the Sunset Deck. The festivities are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, March 30.
