Most ski areas offer special programs for women on the understanding that women often prefer to learn with other women, under the leadership of women instructors. Other programs are geared toward fitting in some snow time around a busy schedule of work, a home and kids.

Among the ones around the Granite State are these:

Cannon Mountain has a Women's Ski Program for two hours every Saturday and Sunday, for $38 a shot. Saturdays are for general improvement, Sundays focus on a different specific topic each week.

Cranmore offers Ski with the Girls from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on non-holiday Sundays. Cost: any six sessions for $175 or $40 a pop.

Gunstock offers Women's Weekend the first Saturday of March, with coaching, demo, NASTAR, discounts and more. Cost: $150.

Mount Sunapee has Ladies Day Tuesday on non-holiday weeks. Cost is $46 for lift ticket, lunch and half-price childcare.

Sunapee also has full-day Women's Workshops for $195, with four hours of instruction from 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m., lift ticket, and lunch. Sunapee also has Weekly Workshops 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays ($50) and Tuesdays ($30).

Ragged Mountain has Ladies Day on non-holiday Mondays, with $25 lift tickets for women.

Wildcat has Ladies Thursdays, when women save $10 on lift tickets, get a free lesson at 10 a.m. and free lunch after, and save 10 percent on the nursery during non-holiday periods.
