The Ullr Fest Snowdance worked in Breckenridge as the resort burst into the New Year by being pounded with powder. Many claim it’s because of the Ullr Fest celebration held annually in January. Thousands head to the town to celebrate with parades and contests. More than 30 floats were in the parade this year, with an estimated 10,000 people watching the fun.
The big record that was broken was for the shot ski. People show up and line up with a ski that has shots of schnapps on it. About 175 skis were placed end to end for a total of 973 feet. With three shots per ski, that works out to more than 525 people. The alcohol was an Ullr-themed schnapps made by the Breckenridge Distillery.
The next big event in Breckenridge is the International Snow Sculpture Championships, Jan. 21-Feb. 2, where 16 teams from around the world will hand-carve 20-ton blocks of snow into enormous works of art. You can follow the progress at Breck Connection.
