On Friday, Dec. 13, the town of Crested Butte, Colorado will kick off its 12 Days of Holiday Cheer event with the lighting of a 44-foot blue spruce in Mountaineer Square at 5 p.m. The evening will include bright perks like outdoor fire pits, s’more stations, hot chocolate and a visit with Santa.
Then on Dec. 14, Crested Butte Mountain Resort will host their own tree lighting display in addition to sponsoring a "Santa Day" in hopes of breaking the Guinness Book of World Records for the most number of skiers in full Santa costumes. Participants need to be decked out in a full Santa suit in order to participate, and CBMR will be offering discounts on lift tickets and lodging for participants. Call (800) 810-7669 for additional information on lift and lodging packages.
The festival continues throughout the week with fun, family-friendly events throughout town such as decorating gingerbread houses (Dec. 15) and celebrating the first night of winter (Dec. 21) at the Trailhead Children’s Museum. Additional activities include teddy bear story hour, shopping night for dads, a photo booth downtown, a visit from Santa, cookie decorating, a teddy bear tea party with Mrs. Santa, chocolate shopping and more.
