Big mountain skiers and riders will get a chance to make a name for themselves this March at Grand Targhee. The resort has lined up four weekends of big mountain freeskiing and freeriding events in the second annual Targhee Tee-Off.
The north side of Peaked Mountain plays home to the Tee-Off. The slopes here contain some of the most difficult steep pitches at the resort with cliffs ranging from 5 to 30 feet high. Competitors rip down a line of their choice while they are judged on air, style, fluidity, and the difficulty of the line.
Entries are limited for each competition to the first 50 participants, including men and women. The $80 entry fee covers course inspections Friday and Saturday, a qualifying round, and final rounds Sunday. Competitors also can purchase lift tickets for $41 per day.
Adult events take place on the first two weekends in March. The freeskiing competition runs Mar. 6-8 followed by the snowboarding freeride competition Mar. 13-15.
Junior events break competition into age group categories: 11- to 14-year-olds and 15- to 17-year-olds. The junior freeskiing competition is scheduled for Mar. 20-22 followed by the junior freeriding event Mar. 27-29.
Entry forms are available online. More information is available at 800-827-4433.
