Rockies

Since this week’s weather is dry and sunny for the Rockies, let’s take stock of the current snow conditions across the region. For locations in Idaho and Montana, the snowpack is about 100-120 percent of average. For Wyoming and Colorado, early-season snow has been even more plentiful with 120-140 percent of average snow currently on the ground. Northern Utah is lagging a bit with 80-100 percent of average snow, while southern Utah, Arizona and New Mexico benefited from last week’s storm and currently sit from 150 percent to more than 200 percent of average snowpack.

Snow will return to the Rockies late this weekend through early next week with a cold storm moving south from Canada. Expect multiple feet of snow from Sunday through Wednesday for northern Wyoming, Montana and Idaho. During the middle and end of the week, Utah, Colorado and even Arizona and New Mexico should get in on the action with perhaps 6-12+ inches for these areas.

The longer-range outlooks are unsure if this cold and snowy pattern will stick around the west past December 6th, but we’ll worry about that forecast next week. For now, enjoy the snow that will return to the mountains as we ring in the month of December.
