As excited as we are to get the 2013/14 season underway at Mt. Bachelor, Mother Nature needs to provide a little more assistance before the resort can begin normal early season operations. While the last storm deposited an excellent blanket of snow above the 7,000 foot elevation, the current packed base depth in West Village ranges from zero to six inches, which is too thin to stand up to normal levels of early season skier and rider traffic at the base of the mountain. As a result, Mt. Bachelor plans to open a Terrain Park with multiple lines including rails and boxes, under the Sunshine Accelerator lift on Saturday, November 23. All 2013/14 passes and 4 Packs are valid beginning Saturday and Terrain Park lift tickets will be priced at $29 for adults, and $19 for all other age categories. The Terrain Park is scheduled to operate daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Wednesday, November 27, and the resort will be closed Thanksgiving Day.
With cold temperatures expected over the next few days, snowmaking operations will be in full force under the Pine Marten Express lift and in the West Village base area to increase base depths in anticipation of opening early season operations for the Friday following Thanksgiving. More details on planned operations and services will be announced next week, prior to Thanksgiving.
In addition to the Terrain Park, a walk-up tubing hill will be available for snow-sliding fun in the Snowblast tubing area for $10 per 2-hour session, starting at 10 a.m. and running until 4 p.m. The Nordic Center will also open on the Upper trails, offering approximately 5 kilometers of groomed runs with tickets priced at $10 for all ages. The walk-up tubing hill and Nordic Center will operate this Saturday and Sunday only. Information regarding reopening tubing and Nordic will also be announced prior to Thanksgiving.
Additional resort services beginning Saturday will include food and beverages from the Clearing Rock Bar and Cocoa’s Café in West Village Lodge, and Pinnacles Coffee Shop inside Gravity Sports. Gravity Sports retail shop will be open with all the new 2014 gear and apparel, and incredible deals on a large selection of last season’s skis, snowboards, demos and apparel, up to 50% off.
Season pass and 4 Pack pictures and fulfillment will also be available at the mountain this coming Saturday through Wednesday. Get a head start on your first day by getting your pass or 4 Pack before Thanksgiving.
The following resort services will not be available during the Pre-Thanksgiving time period: Snowsports School lessons, ski and snowboard equipment rentals and demos, child care programs or facilities, and the Mt. Bachelor Shuttle bus service from Bend to the mountain.
