The 2013 OnTheSnow Visitors' Choice Award for Best Family Resort in the West has been snapped up by Northstar—a resort bursting with family fun both on and off the mountain. The Village at Northstar features luxury condominiums, stylish boutiques, cinemas and a collection of cafes and restaurants, all encompassing a year-round skating rink.

SKIING FOR THE KIDS:  Much of the 3,170 acres of terrain is graded intermediate and easy. The beginners' ski area has been expanded and redesigned to include more sculpted smart terrain™ to help improve the learning curve for skiers and riders. The new Adventure, Guiding & Learning Center offers private, semi-private and group lessons for adults and kids, and can cater to any ability level and learning preference. Fun on-slope activities include the Burton Progression Park for wannabe freestylers and the lift-accessed snow tubing hill.

OFF-HILL ACTIVITIES FOR MOM & DAD: Start the evening with chocolate martinis at The Chocolate Bar, sample wines at Petra or  take a short gondola ride up to the Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe for cocktails with a view. Dine on award-winning sushi at Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar. To explore further afield, drive six short miles into historic downtown Truckee and explore this quaint mountain town. With a storied history, Bar of America is the iconic watering hole of choice by locals and visitors alike. Treat yourself to a variety of therapeutic and sports massages, manicures, pedicures and facials at The Balance Holistic Health Spa.

FAMILY FUN OFF THE SLOPES:  Swap your skis for skates and take a spin around Northstar's 9,000-square-foot outdoor skating rink to burn off any left-over energy then enjoy a hot toddy or a "Dirty Snowman" by the outdoor fire pits. Open daily (conditions permitting), skate rentals are available for just $10, and access to the rink is free. Or, if the family is looking for something a little more thrilling, fly high into the sky on the Apex Bungy Trampoline located on the Village Overlook. For a more relaxing way to while away an afternoon, swing by the Villager Candle, Pottery and More in the Village at Northstar to select and paint your own pottery or design a candle. Alternatively, The Village Cinemas offer popular Hollywood hits presented in ultra stereo or DTS, comfortable seating and a full-service concession stand.
