St. Johann in Tyrol, Austria
Good for families looking for a big, friendly resort but unintimidating ski area.
St. Johann is the archetypal Austrian Tyrolean resort, which has actually grown in population size beyond its famous neighbor, Kitzbuhel, but is far more relaxed and boasts much more apfel strudel with much less glitz.
The charming ski area is friendly in scale, and ski kindergarten is available in all three ski schools from age three. Undemanding families will be able to ski here together, while those seeking bigger challenges can opt to ski steeper terrain at neighboring areas offered on the same Kitzbuhel region lift ticket.
St. Johann’s pedestrianized center, its big choice of off-slope facilities, including a public swimming complex and the great range of places to eat, all combine to make St. Johann one of the best ski resorts in Austria for families.
