If there's anything skiers and riders long for (after powder days) it's a long spring season. Late March and early April turns are some of the best of the year as the sun warms up the mountain and allows for comfortable light-layer days while still boasting maximum shred-ability. So what makes an already long spring season even better? Tons of open terrain to enjoy. (Nobody likes lapping the same trail over and over, at least not that much.) Maine's Sugarloaf Resort is currently offering 147 trails and over 1050 acres of open terrain – the most in the east – with plenty of time left to rip it.
A highlight of their open terrain roster are the legendary Backside Snowfields, which just opened as of March 31. Die-hard east coasters know this means some of the gnarliest terrain in the east is now ripe for the picking. And, being the only lift-served above-treeline terrain in the east, spring skiing and riding doesn't get any sweeter than this. Along with an extensive list of glades, terrain parks, natural snow and groomed trails, there is something to be found at Sugarloaf right now that will satisfy every spring skiers appetite.
All that sweet spring snow is available for just $149 for three days thanks to Sugarloaf's Spring Pack ticket deal. The spring lets you enjoy any three days through the remainder of the season, projected to end on April 14.
Plus, to make a late-season road trip to Carrabassett Valley even more enticing, the 'Loaf is about to host their 25th Annual Bud Light Reggae Festival, April 11-14. This is a must-attend event – a staple on the bucket lists of reggae-loving skiers and riders everywhere. With eight bands rocking the mountain village for three days and keeping the vibe mellow throughout, Sugarloaf's biggest spring event is a perfect way to bid adieu to the season and take things out with an irie good time.
Sugarloaf faithfuls with an love for vintage filters, have a chance to win a free trip to this year's Reggae Fest (along with four of their friends) by entering the #RoadtoReggae photo contest on Instagram. Contest ends April 6, when a winner will be chosen at random and announced at the official #RoadtoReggae party at Sea Dog Brewing in Bangor, Maine.
