Head a little further on I-70 and you’ll reach the city of Grand Junction, which is also home to Powderhorn Mountain Resort. You can get in some great skiing but there’s more to do in Grand Junction.
"Where else can you ski, golf and bike, in the same weekend?! Powderhorn is uniquely positioned near Grand Junction, Colorado, where the weather is much warmer down in the Valley versus up on the Grand Mesa where the resort is located," said Mistalynn Meyeraan, spokesperson for the Grand Junction Visitor & Convention Bureau. "Add in Colorado's Wine Country and guests have a ski or board experience that cannot be found anywhere else."
You can definitely ski the slopes of Powderhorn but there’s also golfing, biking, and tours of the Colorado Wine Country. Now, the Grand Junction Visitor and Convention Bureau has partnered with the ski area for 2013 Ski, Stay, & Play packages. Pick out a lodging package with one of the local properties and you can also get lift tickets to Powderhorn.
"The Ski, Stay & Play package has been performing above expectations,” added Meyeraan. “We have partnered with Powderhorn for an extensive co-op advertising push, on top of that we were fortunate that Powderhorn Mountain Resort has been on the receiving end of top snowfall in the state recently. Guests are seeing the ads, following the various snow reports and putting two and two together. It's a win-win for Powderhorn, the lodging properties in Grand Junction and the guests receiving the deals."
Guests also get deals to the local golf courses and bike rental shops. These have to be pre-booked with each course or shop.
A highlight is the Colorado Wine Country. This is where you’ll find wine, beer, and distillery tasting rooms. Climate and soil conditions in the Grand Junction area are perfect for growing quality wine grapes. The federal government has designated one area of the Grand Valley as an American Viticultural Area in recognition of the quality wine grapes produced by local growers. Add to that the scenery, colorful locals, cultural events, and year-round activities and you’ll find an exciting option to your time on the slopes.
Packages are valid through the end of March, based on a stay of at least one night, double occupancy.
