Spring break on the beach? Forget that and head for Wyoming’s Teton Mountains instead to get into the real spring party scene. Grand Targhee Resort throws a growing two-week powder party to celebrate spring and adds in packaged lift ticket and lodging deals, too.

Skiers and snowboarders can still get powder days in spring at Targhee. Due to Targhee’s elevation and Wyoming location, the resort can amass 500 inches of snow annually. That means Spring Breakaway visitors can enjoy powder on the slopes as well as sunny bluebird days.

Grand Targhee’s annual Spring Breakaway fills the last two weeks of March with events to celebrate the season from March 17-31. The festival launches on St. Patrick’s Day with Pot o’ Gold hunts for season passes — one in the kids' zone and one on the main part of the mountain — and high-flying freestyle tricks in the aerial terrain park.

Spring Breakaway culminates in the Totally 80s Weekend when retro fashion dominates contests and the opening party honors the mustache and big hair. Comb the closets for the old neon onesies, and don the Miami Vice beach shirts with sunglasses. Then, you and your buddies can hop in a photo booth to preserve your looks for posterity and hop in the air band competition.

March 30 includes a fundraiser for Avi Dogs. Raffle prizes include a season pass for next year, a 2013 family pool pass, summer music festival tickets, lodging, lift tickets, and cat skiing for two.

For Spring Breakaway visitors, Grand Targhee Resort offers a lodging package that includes free skiing. Those booking four or more nights of lodging can add on free lift tickets. Check with the booking agent for additional requirements of the package.
