Last week the OnTheSnow team converged upon Utah's Little Cottonwood Canyon for the 2013/2014 Ski Test from Snowbird. 17 ski manufacturers joined us to test out a selection of Powder/Big Mountain, All-Mountain and Frontside skis over a three day period (2/27 - 3/1). A snow storm dumped about 11 inches of new snow on the resort on Tuesday, the day before we arrived, creating great conditions for our ski test progression. Wednesday was the Powder/Big Mountain day, and the testers charged hard on the fattest, burliest skis set to hit the market next year, and thanks to Mother Nature, they had perfect conditions for testing. Testers put skis like the Fischer Big Stix, Atomic Automatic, Rossignol Squad 7 and Nordica El Capo through the ringer on the best terrain that Snowbird had to offer.
After a day spent charging big mountain lines and searching for deep powder, our testers moved on to the all mountain category, with two days since the latest snow fall, conditions were great for all-mountain skis. Testers hopped on skis like the Kästle FX-94, Blizzard Cochise, Armada ARV ti, as well as the Dynastar Cham series, and powered through the crud and leftover pockets of snow under picture perfect blue skies.
The third and final day of ski test was dubbed "Frontside Friday," by Ski Test Director Krista Crabtree, and after two days of charging and plenty of tired quads, our ski testers welcomed a day of cruising down the best groomers that Snowbird had to offer. Frontside Friday saw plenty of carving, warm temperatures, and above all, a ton of smiles. All of the manufacturers put out top notch skis for our testers, and the ski test came to a close on a high note.
OnTheSnow would like to extend a big thank you to all of the manufacturers that came to Snowbird for the Ski Test (Armada, Atomic, Black Diamond, Blizzard, Dynastar, Elan, Faction, Fischer, Head, Kästle, K2, Line, Nordica, Rossignol, Salomon, Scott and Völkl), as well as anon. Optics, Leki, Cadillac and Casio for sponsoring the test. The week at Snowbird was fantastic and the staff already wishes they were back at the 'Bird, stay tuned for our comprehensive ski test reviews, set to roll out later this year. In the meantime, we've put a photo gallery together of some of the best moments from Ski Test 2013/2014...
