Spring Comes to Sun Peaks With Speed, Family Activities, And Lodging Package

Speed signals the launch of spring at Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia. The fastest skiers in the world converge on Sun Peaks to reach the highest speeds possible. Spring then fills out with family-friendly activities and a lodging package.

The resort launches spring with one of the longest running speed events in the world and the only FIS Speed Ski World Cup in North America. From Feb. 28-March 3, 2013, skiers will zing down Sun Peaks’ speed skiing track hitting 170 kilometers per hour. Visitors can watch the races as 50 competitors from 10 countries compete for first place and World Cup points.

Besides skiing and snowboarding on three mountains, Sun Peaks Resort also runs several family-friendly activities into spring. Families with children at least 8 years old can don snowshoes on Friday nights for a one-kilometer tour through the woods to a forest camp for roasting s’mores. Families with teens can share a fondue dinner on Thursday nights at the Sunburst Lodge followed by a ski down the mountain by headlamp. Sunday afternoons and evenings, families can swim together at The Sports Centre, which includes an outdoor pool, hot tub, and special kiddie pool.

Sun Peaks also offers a ski and stay package for spring break vacationers. Spring skiers and snowboarders can purchase three nights of accommodations and three days of lift tickets and get an extra night of lodging plus an extra day of lift tickets.

The package is designed for two adults, but it can work for families, too. Youth and child lift tickets can be added on as well. It is available for ski trips booked between March 1-April 2, 2013.

Accommodations for the four nights of lodging in the package are in a standard hotel room or a studio suite. However, upgrades are available.
