The snow is deep at Sunlight, just outside of Glenwood Springs. Two recent storms swept across the Rockies with piles of snow remaining. Colorado resorts are enjoying day after day of fresh powder.

Jennie Spillane, the marketing manager for Sunlight Mountain Resort, says the snow is great and more is in the forecast. “The coverage on the mountain is fabulous with very few sticks or rocks showing. If they are, you’re probably not skiing in the right spots!”

Spillane says the most recent storm left 30 inches of snow and the mountain has received two to three inches almost every day since then. “We would all lobby for more, but considering the conditions last year, we are all very thankful for what we have received this year.”

Enjoy the snow on the slopes at Sunlight, or in the backcountry on a snowmobile. Sunlight Snowmobile Tours will take you through the White River National Forest, with 360-degree views of Mt. Sopris, the West Elk Mountains, and the Flattop Wilderness.

A few options are available. The Family Tour leaves from the Sunlight Mountain Inn near the base of the resort. The Adventure Ride also starts at the Inn, with a guided tour along the Sunlight to Powderhorn Trail. The tour heads to a large meadow at Baylor Park. Ride 30 miles through the White River National Forest.

“The most fun thing about the snowmobile tours is getting to play around in Baylor Park. The views are unbeatable and you get to have a new experience with people you love and people you have never met before,” says Spillane.

Make sure you wear warm layers of clothing and warm boots. Be prepared for inclement weather conditions. Bring sunglasses and bring a camera. You must be 16 to drive a snowmobile.

The snowmobile tours sell out quickly so call ahead to reserve a spot. You can also book online but at least 48 hours in advance.
