Wait for it. That’s what Winter Park skiers have done, and now it is paying off. “People have been waiting to ski and waiting for great conditions to ski on this year,” says Steve Hurlbert, the public relations and communications manager for Winter Park Resort.
“It’s going great. We’ve had a great February in terms of snowfall.” Hurlbert is talking about nearly a foot and a half in less than a week, and it’s still snowing.
“I think there was a lot of pent up demand, especially when we had that really dry November. People were really, really anxious and not really sure what kind of winter we would have. He adds that they had a great December and then January was dry. “But now things have really cranked up in February. Conditions here have been terrific.”
He says that visitors are saying, “That’s the best day of skiing I’ve had in two years!”
Visitation proves it. Lodging has been at 85 perfect full or above since Christmas.
Winter Park’s big event is coming up. The 38th Annual Wells Fargo Cup is March 1-3. The event brings together world-class disabled ski racers, celebrities, and Denver Bronco alumni. The annual event is a fundraiser for the National Sports Center for the Disabled. Watch the action for free from the balcony house or base, as all races are on Hughes Run.
