Valentine’s week is doubly sweet this week at Minnesota’s Spirit Mountain. First, it opens its new lodge, followed by offering a sweet Valentine’s Day deal on Thursday, Feb. 14.
The Chalet on Grand Avenue will open Feb. 11, and a big public grand opening celebration open house is scheduled for Feb. 24.
Among the amenities it will feature the new year-round Riverside Bar & Grill, and will ease traffic by offering bus transport to and from the metro Duluth area. The lodge also will have rentals, lessons and ticketing facilities to make it easier to get on the slopes. In summer, it will be the base for its new lift-access mountain bike rental program.
Then either before or after your visit to the new chalet, treat your sweets to Spirit’s “Sweetheart on the Slopes” special, that allows you to save money on the slopes to spend it elsewhere.
Discounts for Feb. 14 include (and note the clever use of “14” in the prices) $14 lift tickets (a $6 discount) after 4 p.m., a two-hour Adventure Park pass to use the zip line, tubing runs or alpine coaster for just $14, or half the normal price. Boarders and skiers can also shop for pink or red merchandise at the Mountaintop Shop and get 30 percent off, or get 10 percent off at the Adventure Park.
