Idaho’s Schweitzer Mountain Resort pulls out all the stops for families in February. The resort runs weekly activities, plus adds on special events and deals that bump up the fun for families. In addition, families can get a ski and stay package with slope-side lodging.
Schweitzer celebrates the Sandpoint Winter Carnival Feb. 15-24, 2013. The carnival launches with the President’s Day long weekend and continues through the last weekend in February. Snowshoe hikes, complimentary Nastar runs for first-time racers, night skiing, village scavenger hunts, and tubing appeal to families.
Special events add on extra fun. On Feb. 17, Schweitzer will shine laser lights on JR Run. The 45-minute family-friendly show features the music of Pink Floyd with laser lights dancing on the run.
No problem if you’re missing the Winter Carnival days. Plenty of other ongoing activities are available for families.
Night skiing runs until 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights through March 2. Night lifts include the Basin Express and Musical Chairs double chair. The lifts serve the Stomping Grounds Terrain Park and beginner terrain on family-friendly slopes.
Hermit’s Hollow throws tubing parties on Family Nights twice a week. These run 4:30-7 p.m. on Fridays and Saturday nights through March 2. Two lanes of tubing bring out the screams, and families can roast marshmallows around a campfire. The parties cost $20 per person.
Families can participate anytime in the Photo Scavenger Hunt. The activity is free, just bring your own camera. The unique scavenger hunts takes families around the mountain. Another Treasure Hunt scours the village for clues, which culminate in finding a prize.
Sunday Solution tickets offer a way to get the family on the slopes for the afternoon for less. By purchasing the Sunday Solution tickets online, families can get each member a lift ticket for $25. That’s $10 less than the ticket window.
The Stella Ski and Stay Package – named for the six-pack lift on the back side – is also available until April 6. It packages up accommodations in the slope side Selkirk or White Pine Lodges, breakfast, lift tickets, and two adult quick tip clinics. Quad occupancy rates start at $96 per person per night for midweek or $106 per person per night on weekend stays, but the package is not available for President’s Weekend stays.
