Storms track through the northern Rockies late this week making the January dry spell a distant memory. Snow forecast is Wednesday through Sunday (2/3).

A series of four storms made their way through the Rockies during the past week, and snowfall amounts over the last five days have topped 30 inches for many areas. Here’s a sample of snow totals from Sunday 1/27 through Wednesday 1/30 (when this article was published):

Ski Purgatory at Durango, CO: 44”

Wolf Creek, CO: 42”

Arizona Snowbowl, AZ: 38”

Grand Targhee, WY: 35”

Alta, UT: 34”

Snowbasin, UT: 34”

Steamboat, CO: 30”

Taos, NM: 28”

Bridger Bowl, MT: 22”

And there’s actually more snow to fall from late Wednesday through Friday for many areas from northern Colorado through Wyoming and Montana. What a welcome change from the dry weeks of the middle of January!

There will be a lull in the action over the weekend, but then another series of storms will move east from the Pacific Ocean and bring snow to the Rockies during the middle and end of next week. It’s too soon to tell exactly where the heaviest snow will fall, but it does appear that the storms will be able to pick up moisture from the Pacific Ocean, and this means the potential for another shot of significant snow for the region. Hallelujah for the end of January and the beginning of February. Get out there!
