This is a big year for Steamboat, as the northern Colorado resort is celebrating its 50-year anniversary. Now, locals are loving big snow days and deep powder. The resort had 24 inches of new snow in 24 hours this week. It’s the best way for the locals to get over the disappointment of the Broncos not playing in the Super Bowl.
“The Broncos may not be playing in the big game, but Steamboat sure is winning the Snow Super Bowl. Two feet in one day and the backside of this low pressure system is expected to dump even more snow on Ski Town, USA.” That’s according to Loryn Kasten, Public Relations Manager for Steamboat.
“A full week of Champagne Powder® snow and 100 percent of the resort’s trails open makes Steamboat one of the best skiing and riding options in Colorado,“ says Kasten.
It’s also a place that prides itself in learning to ski and ride. The Steamboat Ski & Snowboard School’s Learn to Ski & Learn to Ride clinics put first-time winter enthusiasts with an expert instructor. Some are collegiate athletes and some are former Olympians. The resort is so confident about its “Never Ever” students that they guarantee they’ll be skiing or riding comfortably on green runs after their three-day program.
The package offers three days of instruction, gear rental, lift tickets, and the same instructor for all three days. The program is for those who are 16 years or older. Booking seven days or more in advance can get you a discount.
Don’t forget Steamboat’s big Winter Carnival celebration Feb. 7-10. It is the 100-year anniversary of Winter Carnival. Activities are planned throughout the town the entire time, with the largest fireworks display in the history of Steamboat, going off from Howelsen Hill Saturday night.
