Attention, all you hardcore Midwest skiers and riders: Mount Bohemia, the craggiest, rockiest, treed, most expert-only ski area in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and probably the Midwest, is finally open.
Enough natural snow has fallen at this resort north of Houghton/Hancock in the state’s Keweenaw Peninsula in the last several days that it can finally open most of its 85 trails on two sides of the 900 feet of vertical it occupies. It’s all served by two chair lifts.
Many who’ve visited here consider this the region’s best (read: most challenging) skiing and snowboarding. Only one of its runs is rated for intermediates. Beginners? Don’t even think of coming here, Bohemia boasts.
Bohemia officially opened for the season last Friday after receiving 29 inches of snow in the last week.
Bohemia not only offers its traditional yurts that have been here multiple seasons, but also trailside cabins that this season include breakfast and dinner.
Among the events in the offing is its annual Mardi Gras Madness party on Saturday, March 9. Female skier attending with the most beads wins $1,000.
