The Sundance Film Festival may have wrapped up last weekend, but that doesn’t mean you won’t spot a few familiar faces around Park City this week. The world’s best skiers and snowboarders take to Park City and Deer Valley resorts for two major competitions that hint at what’s to be expected at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia.

The Sprint U.S. Grand Prix and the FIS Freestyle World Cup return to the slopes Jan. 30 to Feb. 2, providing a spectator-friendly display of technical tricks and amazing aerial feats.

Make your first stop at Park City Resort on Wednesday, Jan. 30 for the U.S. Grand Prix, where snowboarders and freeskiers will throw down tricks during the halfpipe qualifiers in the morning. From 5-6:30 pm, athletes will pull out all the smoothest tricks during the Paul Mitchell Progression Session Big Air comp in the 3 Kings terrain park.

After the Big Air event, head to Park City’s Main Street to peep a free concert by Cold War Kids, beginning at 7 p.m. Hosted by Deer Valley Resort, this concert marks the opening celebration of the FIS Freestyle World Cup at Deer Valley.

The U.S. Grand Prix continues at Park City Resort throughout the week with snowboard halfpipe finals on Friday, Feb. 1 and ski halfpipe finals on Saturday, Feb. 2. The FIS Freestyle World Cup will go on concurrently with all mogul events taking place on Thursday, Jan. 31 at Deer Valley, all aerial events on Friday, Feb. 1 and dual moguls on Saturday, Feb. 2. Every evening at Deer Valley concludes with a free fireworks show at the resort.

Of course, you’ll need a place to stay with a busy weekend of freestyle skiing and riding, and Canyons Resort’s Family Adventure Special is the perfect package for an active getaway.

Reserve your stay anytime between now and Feb. 8 and receive free lift tickets for adults and kids, 50 percent off group ski/snowboard lessons and a gift card (up to $200) for each night of your stay, valid on any Canyons activities, including snowmobile tours, ziplining, sleigh rides and more. Visitors must book the Canyons’ Family Adventure Special for four or more days. Call 866-604-4171 for additional details.
