Centrally located between Madison, Wis., and Minneapolis, Mt. LaCrosse has been welcoming skiers and boarders to its 19 runs on a 516-foot vertical drop above the Mississippi River for 53 years now.

Its specialty is catering to families, with ongoing deals throughout the season.

One skier/rider fave is family night. While many ski areas offer families a discount on Sundays, LaCrosse does it on every Saturday night from 4-9 p.m.

The first parent pays $35 for a lift ticket and rental, already a $12 savings from the normal all-day ticket cost of $49. The spouse and all children then pay just $7 each for a lift ticket, plus another $7 for ski rental ($13 for snowboards). Top that off with free beginner lessons with reservation, and your savings add up quickly.

Mondays are student nights. Any student from elementary school to college, including teachers, can ski or ride for just $11 from 4-9 p.m., an $11 saving off the normal tab.

The resort also offers lodging specials through the Hampton Inn LaCrosse, that includes complimentary breakfast, lift tickets and a free in-room movie with hot chocolate for the kids.

Mt. LaCrosse also is finishing up adding six new features to its terrain park, which was moved to a new location this season.
