Michigan’s Mt. Brighton Becomes Part of Vail Family; Deals For Kids, Seniors

Southeast Michigan’s Mount Brighton has taught literally tens of thousands of winter funsters skiing and snowboarding since opening in 1960.

Now, Brighton has made skiing and riding there even more special by becoming part of Vail resorts in December.

The little mountain that could was built initially using highway construction debris as a base, and added to over the decades to become 260 vertical feet of fun, with 26 runs served by 17 lifts and tows. Nearly all of its snow is manmade, created from an onsite reservoir.

For years, Detroit’s two major newspapers helped introduce Southeast Michigan residents to skiing and snowboarding at Brighton. Now, the area continues that tradition through similar deals of its own for beginners and advanced skiers alike, like these:

Kids can take part in those learn-to-ski deals available just for them. Brighton’s “mogul mouse” program is specially designed to teach youngsters aged 5-14 either skiing or snowboarding through lessons on three weekends, with the next session starting Jan. 26, for just $200, which includes lessons, lift tickets and gear rental. Senior skiers and riders aged 62 and above get on the slopes for half-price anytime. And, there are specials for families Sunday, men Wednesdays and women Thursdays.
