Ski by day, dance by night. Fiddles, banjos, basses, and acoustic guitars play the counterpart to skis and snowboards at Montana’s Big Sky Resort in early February. The seventh annual Big Grass Festival makes a return with bluegrass music pumping up crowds after a day on the slopes.

The Big Grass Festival is slated to run Feb. 8-10, 2013, a week earlier than its usual President’s Day weekend slot. This February marks the seventh year of the sellout event. Bluegrass bands scheduled to take the stage include the Sam Bush Band, Del McCoury Band, Emmit-Nershi Band, Travelin' McCourys, and Special Consensus.

The Missouri Ball Room hosts headliner concerts on Saturday and Sunday nights during the festival. Saturday opens with Two Bit Franks followed by the Del McCoury Band. Sunday features the Sam Bush Band with Special Consensus. Tickets cost $35 for each.

Weekend passes are also available, saving $25 off buying individual tickets. The Live Big Weekend Pass, which costs $145, gets you in to all ticketed shows in the Missouri Ball Room in addition to music in Whiskey Jacks and the Talus Room. The Big Sky Big Grass Festy Pass costs $105. It includes the Missouri Ball Room shows as well as Whiskey Jack music.

The Carabiner Lounge runs a lineup of regional bands on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Tickets are not needed, and no cover is charged.

Big Sky Reservations is also offering lodging specials over the Big Grass Festival weekend. Huntley Lodge rooms cost $169 per night during the festival.
