Make your ski trip a little more educational with a behind-the-scenes demo on what happens at the resort after hours. With Crested Butte Resort’s Snowcat Driving Experience, you get to sit at the helm of a big rig and lay a different set of tracks in the snow. This basic intro class brings in Crested Butte’s own troop of snowcat drivers to instruct you and a few classmates on how to drive, push and shovel snow – all with a few hundred horsepower and a couple tons of machinery at your fingertips.

Students begin their class day in the “lab”, studying the parts and functions of a Prinoth 275 Snowcat before taking their newly acquired knowledge into the rig for an hour of actual, one-on-one drive time. From there, it’s up to you manicure the perfect plot of corduroy for optimal groomer runs.

Classes run twice daily at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., four days a week (Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday) until the resort closes on April 7. The program costs $199 per person, and group bookings are available by request. Students must be 18+ and have a valid driver license.

To reserve a spot in the class, call the Adventure Center at 970-349-4554.
