Kids Stay, Ski Free at a Rustic Ranch Near Winter Park

The C Lazy U Guest Ranch is a five-star experience. This popular getaway, near Winter Park and Ski Granby Ranch, is a ranch that sits on 8,500 acres with 38 rustically decorated, yet elegant cabins.

C Lazy U is offering something completely new this winter. Kids can stay and ski for free. It’s a 27-percent discount based on a family of four. The offer includes your cabin, three gourmet meals per day, and all of the activities sponsored on the ranch. Children 17 and under can stay, eat, play, and ski free with a paying adult.

“We thought it would be a fun promotion to offer to guests. It’s great value and a deal we have not offered in the past,” said Brady Johnson, director of sales and marketing for C Lazy U.

Activities are geared towards families and the kids will love it. The fun includes horseback riding, snowcat excursions, sledding, snow tubing, ice hockey and skating, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and more. Skating is on the pond on property that has its own Zamboni.

Ski on private runs on the ranch, accessible by snowcat on C Lazy U’s private ski hill, Mount Baldy. Johnson says, “We have approximately 1,000 acres of skiable terrain for private cat skiing. The front consists of beginner, intermediate, and advanced runs, most of which are groomed with our snowcat, and expert ungroomed open bowl powder skiing on the backside. All abilities can be served, from someone who has never skied, to the advanced expert who wants to jump cliffs and ski powder in open bowls. We also have a warming hut with hot cocoa, snacks and water.  We do not provide rentals, but there are numerous places to get them near the ranch, including Granby and Winter Park. Snowboarders are welcome as well.”

These dude ranch activities can be simple, good old fashioned fun. On my last visit, we were happy to ride the sleigh out to the fields to feed the hay to the horses. Of course, being eight months pregnant at the time made it one of the few things I could do. You couldn’t pick a more beautiful setting.

The small print says a child is free with a paying adult, which is $325 per adult. Each additional child is $125 per night, and those prices are all inclusive. A two-night minimum stay is required. The deal is good Jan. 6 to March 24, Feb. 14-18, and March 1-3.

“We still have some availability for the winter, but with the latest round of snowfall, we are beginning to book up,” added Johnson.
