Take the Train to Whitefish at a Discount

Whitefish Mountain Resort is one of the few U.S. ski areas serviced by train. You can hop Amtrak from the Midwest or Pacific Coast and arrive only a quick shuttle ride from the resort.

This winter, skiers and snowboarders can save 20 percent on adult coach seats on Amtrak travel to Whitefish, but in order to get the discount fares, reservations must be made by February 28, 2013, and bookings must be made at least three days in advance.

The discount is available for trips completed before Mar. 31. The discount is not available during blackout dates, which include Dec. 26- 30, 2012, Jan. 2, 2013,
 Feb. 15 and 18, 2013, and March 28 - 29, 2013.

Travelers originating their trips from select cities are eligible for the 20 percent discount. From the east, the discount is available for skiers from Chicago (IL), Milwaukee (WI), Columbus (OH), Lacrosse (IN), Winona (MN), St. Paul-Minneapolis (MN), Fargo (ND), Grand Forks (ND), Minot (ND), Williston (ND), Havre (MT), and Shelby (MT). From the west, the discount is available for skiers from Spokane (WA), Everett (WA), Edmonds (WA), Seattle (WA), Portland (OR), Pasco (OR), and Vancouver, BC.

The westbound train arrives in Whitefish at 8:56 p.m. The eastbound train arrives in Whitefish at 7:26 a.m., in time to spend a full day on the slopes. Trains depart about 20 minutes later, allowing for another full day of skiing for westbound travelers.
