North of Steamboat, you’ll find an amazing set up, which is also a great place to take some turns. Three Forks Ranch sits on 200,000 acres, with a lodge that rivals the size of your local grocery store. It is also a mini ski area that is private, just 40 miles from the slopes of Steamboat.
Chad Fleischer lives in Steamboat. Fleischer is one of the most decorated skiers in U.S. history. He competed in two Winter Olympics and five World Championships. He won the U.S. National Downhill title two times. Now, he’s running a ski shop in Steamboat, and raising his family.
But he will also go snowcat skiing with you. Felischer says, “A lot of cat operations have great terrain and they do a great job but one thing that makes Three Forks truly unique is that it is five-star all the way.”
Three Forks Ranch offers a full day of cat skiing with Fleischer as your private guide and instructor, for a cost of $475 per person per day. Your ski day includes breakfast and lunch at the Lodge & Spa at Three Forks Ranch, along with transportation to get there. If you don’t want to drive, a helicopter is available for $1,600 with a max capacity of four people.
“It’s a very select offering. It’s for those looking for something that’s exceptional, and it’s all theirs.” He adds that because you’re the only ones up there, there’s no sense of urgency.
This deal is only available on Wednesdays, Jan. 2 through March 20. Seats are limited so book in advance. Two snowcats are available so as many as 16 can go. Fleischer says if he needs more Olympians, he calls downhill skiing legend Moose Barrows. “My wingman is Moose Barrows, so if I get to a point where my cat is full, then Moose comes up and joins the fun.”
Fleischer can help arrange your ski or snowboard equipment if you need rentals through Fleischer Sport at the base of the Steamboat Ski Area, at One Steamboat Place.
Fleischer also adds that it’s worth the stay if you want to get away for a few days. “Throw in the après skiing, food and beverage, and spa treatments and you’ll find it’s one of those special places.” He says he went with 12 couples last year who said it was hands down the nicest place and best customer service they’ve ever experienced.
