As if you really needed a reason to grab your friends and spend a day on the mountain, but the seventh annual World Snowboard Day validates your decision to go ride on Sunday, Dec. 30 anyways.

World Snowboard Day is a global event that aims to introduce new people to the sport and celebrate the camaraderie among one-plankers and knuckledraggers.

Here in Utah, World Snowboard Day kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 29 at The Sidecar bar in Park City from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. The bar will feature a silent auction of snowboarding goodies, giveaways and live music.

In the morning, head over to Canyons Resort, Utah’s official venue for World Snowboard Day, and cash in on discounted lift tickets, participate in the Free Ride Poker Rally and imbibe in a post-ride mixer that brings together old and new friends for a bubbly good time. And lest you forget, there’s plenty of snowboarding to be had all day long.

To make the day’s event even sweeter for beginner riders, Burton’s Go Snowboarding program and Canyons’ One Sweet Ride ski and board shop have partnered up to offer a free lift ticket, a free snowboard lesson and free boot and binding rentals with the purchase of a new Burton snowboard.

Currently, more than 130 events are scheduled to take place throughout 35 countries on World Snowboard Day.
