The boys are back in town. The Big Boys that is, in Michigan. Nearly all the state’s major ski areas are now operating lifts daily, and with the increasing probability of the season’s first big storm looming just in time for the holidays, take advantage of some great deals. Here are just two.

If you come between Dec. 21 and Jan. 1, Boyne Mountain has lots of fun in store. Before he hops on his sleigh, Santa will be at Boyne on Dec. 24. Horseback trail rides will be available three times during the day throughout the period, as will horse-drawn wagon rides, zipline tours and live entertainment, and a special New Year’s Eve family dinner buffet and dinner party.

Boyne’s holiday packages begin at $171 for a two-double, one-king bed lodge rooms. That includes a normally $45 per person lift ticket for unlimited skiing or riding, plus breakfast. Juniors aged nine to 15 get even more discounts, and as a special gift to all families, kids under age 8 sleep, ski/ride and eat breakfast free.

Head to its sister resort Boyne Highlands, to the north near Harbor Springs, for the $108 Lift and Lodge holiday package, which includes an overnight stay, lift ticket and buffet breakfast. Watch both websites for special packages throughout the season.
