Talk about an economic stimulus! Minnesota’s Spirit Mountain is offering a huge deal to skiers and boarders this year, by dropping the cost of its lift tickets by 25 percent for the entire season.

Located 10 minutes from downtown Duluth, Spirit, which has been hosting skiers since 1974, is a big weekend destination for residents of Minneapolis/St. Paul.

It’s continuing that giving spirit all season with other offers through special hotel partners on its website, which is of special interest to those Twin Cities skiers and riders. Stay at one of them and ski or ride Spirit for just $15 for a five-hour lift ticket. Normally, those go for $29, a 48-percent discount.

To ready the resort for this season, Spirit has undertaken a multi-million-dollar upgrade.

First, it has a new detachable quad chair lift serving one of the resort’s most popular intermediate runs.

Come the first week of February, Spirit is scheduled to open its new $7 million base lodge. It will feature a year-round bar and restaurant, and will offer bus transportation to and from the metro area. The lodge will also have rentals, lessons and ticketing to ease congestion elsewhere at the resort, plus new Head rental gear.

That’s all in addition to the four-lane tubing park as part of the area’s Adventure Park, a short drive from the main chalet, which also operates in summer with an alpine coaster, year-round zip line and nine-hole mini golf course.
