A move to Vail isn't the only big change in store for the 2013 Burton US Open Snowboarding competition. Burton Snowboards has announced that the qualifying rounds will become a stand-alone, East Coast event called the Burton US Open Snowboarding Qualifiers presented by MINI. The inaugural event will be held at Pennsylvania's Seven Springs Mountain Resort, Feb. 1-3, 2013.
Created in association with long-time partner U.S. Snowboarding, the new US Open Qualifiers will take place during a U.S. Revolution Tour stop at Seven Springs, a resort that has a long heritage of supporting and progressing snowboarding. Last season the resort debuted the country's first dedicated urban terrain park, The Streets, and annually produces one of the east's few Olympic-sized halfpipes. Additionally, the resort is the 2012 OnTheSnow Visitors' Choice for Best Park & Pipe in the Mid-Atlantic.
The top 10 men and top 5 women in each discipline will be invited to compete in the Semi Finals in Vail, CO on Feb. 25 - Mar. 2, 2013 based on their results from the qualifiers in Seven Springs. In addition to scoring a spot at the US Open in Vail, top placing riders will earn a piece of a $20,000 prize purse, 4Star World Snowboard Tour points and U.S. Revolution Tour points. The format at the US Open Qualifiers will feature 70 men and 30 women competing in slopestyle on Saturday, Feb. 2 and in halfpipe on Sunday, Feb. 3.
Seven Springs guests and pass holders won't want to miss the US Open Qualifiers weekend, packed with snowboarding action day and night. In addition to watching the competition, guests can also enjoy the Burton Mountain Festival, which offers riders a full day of on-snow activities, including Burton Snowboards 2013 product demos, live music, sponsor giveaways and a traveling terrain park designed for the smallest snowboarders.
Rider registration is open now through Dec. 31, 2012.
