Kick off the New Year with a New Year’s Eve celebration at the Glenwood Hot Springs pool. This year-round destination is hosting a healthy, alcohol-free alternative to traditional festivities. It’s the 25th year for the celebration. The facility will be open longer than normal, until 1 a.m. The party includes noisemakers, party hats, and the traditional countdown into the New Year, along with a drawing for one annual pool pass, valid for all of 2013.

“We wanted to provide a unique, safe, family-friendly experience for ringing in the New Year.  It’s such a unique and special way to celebrate. How many other places can you go where you can be floating under the stars or snowflakes, while counting down to the New Year?” says Jeremy Gilley, Director of Sales and Revenue at Glenwood Hot Springs.

The event will also happen whether skies are clear or it is snowing. It is not dependent on the weather. “New Year’s Eve is the only day of year that Glenwood Hot Springs Pool and the Athletic Club stay open until 1 a.m., so there’s a lot of anticipation, and everyone is in a very festive mood. Kids especially love it,” said Gilley.

There’s also rumor of a large group cannonball splash at midnight. “The local community has really embraced this event over the years, and many have made this their New Year’s tradition.”

The Glenwood Hot Springs Lodge is also available over the holidays. All guests receive free, unlimited admission to the hot springs pools during their stay along with a full breakfast each morning.

On New Year’s Day, head up the road to Sunlight Mountain Resort for a fun day on the slopes. Shuttle buses are available from Glenwood Springs to the slopes. Sunlight Mountain Resort is 12 miles south of Glenwood, 30 miles northwest of Aspen, and 50 miles west of Beaver Creek.

Other events at Sunlight in January are the Day of Infamy Snowshoe Race through Babbish Gulch on Jan. 6. Skier Appreciation Day is Jan. 11. Lift tickets are only $15 and all proceeds go to the United Way of Garfield County.
