Hitting your favorite mountain on opening day is a great way to kick off the season. It's even sweeter when you can make your first visit to the slopes a weekend getaway and enjoy the luxury of waking up slopeside and guarantee your spot on the first chair. Canaan Valley Resort in Davis, West Virginia is scheduled to open for the 2012/13 season on Dec. 21 and they're offering some killer deals for loyal skiers and riders who want to be there as the lifts start turning.

The Canaan Super Saver sets skiers and riders up with a night in a queen or double room, their next day lift ticket, $2 discount coupon toward a two-hour tubing session and access to an indoor pool, fitness center, whirlpool & saunas – all for just $49 per person/per night.

Valid daily Dec. 21-25, 2012, March 3-17, 2013 and midweek Jan. 1 to Feb. 28, 2013. Rates are based on double occupancy for non-holiday stays.

New to the downhill scene? Canaan Valley offers a special Learn to Ski or Board Package, valid the same periods as the Super Saver, that throws in daily breakfast, ski/board equipment rentals and a beginner group lesson for just $89 per person / per night.

Canaan Valley has been busy this year prepping for a big winter season. New for 2012/13, the resort will debut an upgraded snow-making system and a brand new tubing park with ticketing area. The new park is bigger all around, expanding the number of lanes to 10+ and extending the length to 1,200 feet. A magic carpet tube tow now hauls tubers to the top of the hill, where they'll find a new Warming Hut with hot concessions.

In addition, the resort has added a new beginner ski slope, a dedicated ski school teaching area, magic carpet lift for beginners, new warming areas, and completed several base facility and lift renovations.
