Three more British Columbia ski resorts opened this weekend. Mt. Seymour, Red Mountain Resort, and Whitewater Ski Area started up their lifts for the 2012-13 winter and are offering ways for skiers to get on the slopes at a discount.

Mt. Seymour skiers hopped on a new chairlift on opening day last Friday. The new $5 million Mystery Peak Express replaced an ailing fixed grip double chair from 1962. The faster ride at half the time will translate into more slope time.

In addition to the new lift, skiers can also get discount lift tickets at Seymour. The ski area sells a book of five tickets. The adult book, which costs $229, works out to a $5 discount off the ticket window price for each day. Books of five lift tickets are also available for youth, seniors, and children.

Red Mountain Resort reportedly had the best early season base in more than five years when it opened last Saturday. The base in the upper elevations tallied up more than four feet. This winter, the resort will run a cat shuttle on Grey Mountain for $10 a ride Thursdays through Sundays plus holidays to access the new terrain this year.
Red Mountain has its Vertical Value Cards for sale until Dec. 24. The cards include three free days of skiing or riding on the first, fourth, and seventh days. Adult cardholders also get a $15 discount for five more visits. Discounted cat skiing and lodging are additional perks. The card is available only for residents of British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Washington, and Idaho. The cards cost $79 for adults, but youth, junior, and senior cards are lower.

Following the biggest snowpack in a decade last winter, Whitewater Ski Area opened last Friday with dreams of a repeat season. Three lifts started up, but the Glory Chair may need another week or so of snowfall to open.

The ski area is still selling its Powder Plus Card. The cards give owners free skiing or snowboarding on the first and sixth days of use. Cardholders can purchase lift tickets for $7.50 off on all other days. The cards cost $77 for adults, $63 for youth and seniors, and $50 for juniors. Other perks include discounts on rentals and private lessons.
