Lake Louise Ski Area and the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise sit on opposite sides of the Bow Valley in Banff National Park. But the two make a perfect luxury getaway for skiers and snowboarders.

To the east, the Lake Louise Ski Area claims 4,200 acres of groomers, bowls, chutes, glades, and powder. With a green run descending from every chairlift, even families can get explore the whole mountain. For advance skiers and riders, the back Powder Bowls fulfill dreams.

To the west, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise commands one of the most spectacular settings – on the shore of frozen Lake Louise below the ice-crusted Mt. Victoria. You can see the 554-roomed hotel from the slopes of the ski area, but it shrinks in size compared to the snow-covered giant peaks that surround it.

For skiers and snowboarders, the hotel is offering a ski package for this winter until May 1, 2013. It pairs up a room with two adult lift tickets for Lake Louise. Transportation, a 10-minute drive, is available between the ski area and the hotel. Rates start at $329 per night, based on double occupancy in a Fairmont Room.

The problem with a getaway to Lake Louise is that you may need more time to ski everything — especially if you want to visit any surrounding resorts. You may need to extend your getaway into a real vacation.

Two stay and play packages are also available, but they do not include lift tickets. You can get a fifth night free and $200 resort credit, but only pay for four nights. You can also get a sixth and seventh night free and $350 resort credit when paying for five nights. You can pair these packages up with other discount lift ticket options.

Chateau Lake Louise can still serve as a base for exploring other ski areas in the Lake Louise Plus Card Program — Castle Mountain, Panorama Mountain Resort, and Revelstoke Mountain Resort. They are all easy day trips away.

The Lake Louise Plus Cards give three free days of skiing on the first, fourth, and seventh days. On other days, you get $20 off full-day lift tickets. The cards, which are valid any day of the season, are on sale through Dec. 31, 2012.
