Wyoming’s Snowy Range Ski and Recreation Area kicked off the season in early December. Visitors to the slopes this winter can get a ski and stay package at the closest hotel in Centennial, set on the edge of the Medicine Bow National Forest.

The ski area launched the 2012-13 season thanks to snowmaking. Machine-made snow supplemented the thin snowpack to open two runs for skiing and snowboarding. Virginian and Pioneer lifts are running, along with the Magic Carpet, and the Pioneer Park started up with four features.

Snowy Range plans to add more runs and lifts as conditions permit. Meanwhile, those planning vacations to the ski area can get a ski and stay package in a historic hotel in Centennial, located five miles from the slopes.

The Mountain View Historic Hotel features eight rooms and suites. The hotel was built in 1907 and is listed on the National Historic Register, but rooms and facilities have been updated. The Indian Paintbrush Suite and Mountain Sage Room are new this month.

Mountain View is offering two- and three-day ski and stay packages. The packages are set up with lift tickets and rentals for one person, but you can add on more lift tickets and rentals at discounted rates.

The two-day packages include 10 percent off two nights of lodging and 10 percent off one two-day adult lift ticket and 10 percent off rentals. The three-day packages bump up the discount to 20 percent off lodging for three nights, 25 percent off one three-day adult lift ticket and 25 percent off rentals.

Lift tickets are for consecutive days. You get vouchers to swap into lift tickets at the ski area.
