Mad River Hosts First Springfest March 7-8

Looking out over Ohio's farmland from Mad River Mountain. Looking out over Ohio's farmland from Mad River Mountain.

It's a brand new event for Mad River Mountain, located in the northwest corner of the Buckeye State near Bellefontaine. It's been a great season at MRM and they are hosting their first ever Springfest, March 7-8, to celebrate the coming of spring. Pond skimming, live entertainment, ski and snowboard races, and more will be taking place throughout the weekend. Log onto Mad River's site for a complete list of events and times.

Mad River's annual Memorial Races take place Sunday, March 8, and promise, as usual, a lot of competitive fun for participants. It's always a popular event. The season will soon be coming to end. Get out and get in those last runs of the season.

March is always a great time to ski and ride. Warming temps, lots of sunshine, and still plenty of snow on the trails translates into some of the best conditions of the season.

Skiing here, especially during March when things are starting to green a little, always makes me think of skiing in Vermont in the springtime. Mad River may never reach the height of New England ski areas, but winding down a narrow wooded trail looking out over the valley below, you could swear you were in the Green Mountain State. The scene is straight out of Vermont., complete with fencerows, dairy herds, rustic red barns and silos.

Looking down into the Possum Run Valley, just south of Mansfield, the snow looks great in this image of Snow Trails!
