This year, skiers and riders everywhere are thankful for the weather. Following last year's disappointing snow fall and uncooperative temperature swings, this season appears to be off to a significantly better start, with numerous resorts poised to reach their opening day targets. In Vermont, skiers and riders are especially thankful because Stratton Mountain Resort is among that list, set to open for the season on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 9 a.m.

The resort will be serving up more than fresh snow and top-to-bottom skiing and riding over the Thanksgiving holiday. A packed calendar of events promises a busy week for guests.

Family, friends and pets are encouraged to don a funny costume for the 7th Annual Gobble Gobble Wobble 5K Fun Run on Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 22. The race starts at 9 a.m. at the Village Clocktower. After working up their appetites, guests can head to Bentley’s Restaurant to enjoy a Thanksgiving feast of traditional favorites and innovative dishes with fresh, local ingredients. The meal is a four course, prix fixe menu with seatings at 5:30 and 7:30 pm. The cost is  $45 and reservations are required.

Guests can loosen up before heading back onto the slopes for the weekend with yoga and fitness classes at the new Living Room & Sports Center, located at the Inn at Stratton Mountain. Classes will be offered Wednesday, Nov. 21 – Sunday, Nov. 25.

On Saturday afternoon Stratton Parks will host the annual Village Rail Jam in the heart of Stratton Village. Skiers and riders compete for a cash prize, swag and holiday weekend bragging rights. Registration run from noon to 1 p.m. at the Burton Store in the Village, the Rail Jam starts at 2 p.m.

Friday night, the sky above Stratton will light up with a magnificent Opening Fireworks display starting at 9 p.m. Watch the show from the deck of Grizzly's where live music and DJs will be keeping the dance floor hot all weekend.
