Sipapu Ski and Summer Resort kicked off New Mexico’s winter season on Saturday, Nov. 17, marking the 11th consecutive year of being the first resort in the state to give skiers and snowboarders a cure from the summer blues.

With an early season storm and ongoing snowmaking contributing to the 16-inch base, Sipapu opened with three out of five lifts, including Lift #1, Practice Slope and a magic carpet. Currently three top-to-bottom trails and a terrain park are open for beginner and intermediate skiers and riders.

While visitors can expect discounted lift tickets until more terrain opens up ($20 adults, $15 kids, teens and seniors), Sipapu has made it even more affordable to hit the slopes with ongoing deals throughout November. From Nov. 17-21, receive free overnight accommodations for up to 4 people at Sipapu’s slopeside hotel with the purchase of one lift ticket. From Nov. 19-22, load up the car with up to six people, and the whole carload skis or rides for $50. Or throughout the entire 2012-2013 season, kids ages 6 and younger, 4th graders (with a report card), 40-year-olds, 60-year olds and guests 70 and older ski/ride for free – no strings attached.

Lifts will continue to operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday during Thanksgiving week, Nov. 17-25, and reopen for weekend operations Dec. 1-2. Sipapu’s seven-day-a-week operations will go into full effect beginning on Dec. 7 through Mar. 31.
