Vail Mountain kicks off its 50th anniversary ski season today, Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 with the dedication of their brand new, state-of-the-art Gondola, One. To commemorate their 50th season, Vail will have a cabin from their original gondola placed in the Mountain Plaza throughout the 2012-2013 season.
The dedication includes the christening of the new gondola, by smashing a champagne bottle against the center of the lower terminal.
“We’re excited to kick of Vail’s 50th anniversary season on Friday morning with the grand opening of One, our new gondola in Vail Village and with skiing and snowboarding out of the Lionshead base” said Chris Jarnot, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Vail Mountain. “This would be our typical Lionshead opening except this year we’re also christening our great new gondola in Vail Village and allowing foot passengers to come out for a first ride.”
Vail skiers and riders will have access to the Born Free Express Lift (#8) and be able to ski terrain on the Born Free trail, with a terrain park for those who wish to partake. The Eagle Bahn Gondola (#19) will allow skiers and riders to access the beginner terrain in the Eagle’s Nest area off of the Little Eagle Lift (#15). Vail’s Lionshead Adults and Children’s Ski and Snowboard School will also open for the season, offering lessons for all ability levels.
