Eldora will be celebrating all season long in celebration of its 50th birthday. The resort first opened back in 1962.
Eldora’s Marketing Coordinator, Tavid Bingham, says, “The U.S. Ski Team trained at Eldora in those early years in preparation for the 1964 Innsbruck Games. Coach Bob Beattie, who was also the University of Colorado Ski Coach, was part of the original management team that opened two T-bars on Bryan Mountain in January of 1963.“
It is also the 20th year of the current ownership group of Bill Killebrew, Graham Anderson, and Penny Lewis, widow of the late Chuck Lewis, who purchased the area in the early 90s. Bingham says it will be a celebration all winter. "We’ll be holding events and activities all season long to celebrate this special year, starting with a kick-off party on Opening Day, November 16th!”
You can expect to find snow as Eldora has purchased 50 new high-efficiency snow guns this summer, for a total of 100 high performance guns. The guns make better snow and use less energy.
Eldora is about 15 miles from Boulder. The base elevation is 9,200 feet. Parking is free at the main and lower lots. There are 11 lifts and three terrain parks on the Corkscrew trail, Bonanza trail, and Foxtail trail.
Eldora kicks off the season Friday, Nov. 16.
