Jay Peak Resort Cuts Lift Ticket Prices for the 2012/2013 Season

Skiers and riders are natural-born bargain shoppers. Every season, we faithfully scour the websites of our favorite resorts in search of the elusive "deals page" where the potentially big ticket-window-perks are waiting to be discovered. Yet, every year, especially following a season lacking in natural accumulation, lift rates get a bump to help offset the cost of increased snowmaking. This season, however, northeast skiers and riders are in for the opposite at Vermont's Jay Peak; a mountain known for big smiles and deep snow.

Amidst a flurry of investments, including a new Stateside Mountain Learning Center, a restaurant at the summit of its Aerial Tram and a new quad chair (also on Stateside), Jay Peak has announced it is lowering the price of all lift tickets. You read that correctly, lowering. Using the resort's advanced RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) lift ticket system, skiers and riders will be able to purchase their single-day lift ticket, already at a lower price than last season, then reload the pass online at an even deeper discount on return visits. When reloaded, a single-day ticket will cost just $64—a 15% cut off last year's price. Multi-day ticket purchasers will receive $10 off for each additional day booked, saving up to $50 on a five-day pass.

Vermonter tickets and tickets for season pass holders from other resorts will remain unchanged at $55, but will be reloadable online for just $50.

How is this even possible? A price cut with all this other expansion work going on? Thanks to the striking success of Jay's new Pump House Waterpark and other recent revitalization projects, Jay has been able to slash prices.

"Having new profit centers succeeding at the pace they are gives us the freedom to apply pricing flexibility to areas like lift tickets," said Jay Peak Resort Vice President Steve Wright. "Skiing and riding is why we’re here and it’s our responsibility to make what we believe is the best mountain in the East, an option for everyone."
