Winter has officially arrived in Lake Tahoe! To celebrate the abundance of snow that fell around the lake this week, Squaw Valley will open for skiing and snowboarding for one day only, Thursday, October 25, 2012, to welcome the start of the season and take advantage of the powder.

Squaw Valley’s projected real opening date for the 2012/2013 season will be Nov. 21, weather and conditions permitting, but they are willing to give eager skiers and boarders a one-day teaser.

Searchlight, located at the bottom half of Exhibition Lift, will be open between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. for some early season turns.

This recent storm dropped 28 inches over Squaw Valley’s lower mountain and 32 inches up top this week, setting the mountain up with a solid base and a great start to winter.

Everyone, including passholders, must purchase a ticket at the Guest Services & Sales Center for the one-day event. The cost is $20 for non-passholders and a $10 donation from passholders. Proceeds for the one-day event will go toward supporting the Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Ski Team Foundation. Squaw Valley will match each $10 contribution from passholders to support the ski/snowboard foundation as well. This is a great opportunity to support a good cause, as well as feed the winter stoke by getting some early season skiing in.
