This winter is going to be a good one for Sunlight, just outside of Glenwood Springs, Colo. The mountain hopes to make the Ski Spree celebration at the end of January even bigger and better than ever before.

“We want it to be more of a community winter event,” Sunlight Spokesperson Sheila Maurer said. She hopes to bring the parade back to town. They’ll also have the usual activities such as the chili cook off, torchlight parade, Adventure Race and fireworks. Ski Spree is Feb. 4-5, 2012.

Those planning to visit can also take advantage of the Ski, Swim and Stay packages offered by the resort. The packages offer discounted lodging, lift tickets and pool passes to the world’s largest hot springs pool in Glenwood Springs.

Fourth graders in town will all get a day on the slopes. Sunlight has always offered all fourth graders in the RE-1 and RE-2 school districts a free season pass. This year they’ll have the fourth graders up for a field trip of free rentals, lessons and a safety presentation.

The Learn to Shine program is for anyone who wants to learn to ski or ride. Sunlight instructors will give you three days of lessons, and you’ll get a five-day pass for $325.

Finally, Sunlight Powder Pass holders are now able to load lifts 30 minutes earlier than regular open times on powder days, which means 8:30 a.m. Opening day for the resort is Dec. 2.
