The fifth annual Nikita Chickita, an open-invite slopestyle competition for female snowboarders of all ages and abilities, takes place at Mammoth Mountain Saturday, Feb. 21.

Up for grabs for division winners are cash prizes for the pros and a one-year Nikita clothing sponsorship and other Nikita products for the amateurs. There also will be an overall award for best trick.

The competition takes on a specially customized course on Mammoth's Unbound South Park. Each rider will receive two qualifying runs, with the better score counting; the top five amateurs and top 10 pros then proceed on to the finals, where competitors will compete side-by-side and then ranked according to division.

The judging will be based on amplitude, use of course, difficulty, style, and overall impression and will be made by highly skilled and knowledgeable snowboarders.

The event has been hailed as "an open, warm, non-intimidating environment for girls ... who share their love for snowboarding and test their own athletic limits." It also has been given props as a significant way to encourage the next generation of park riders.

Registration for the Nikita Chickita competition is available online.

Nikita Chikita participants can score discounted lodging - 15 percent off the best available rate - by calling 800- 626-6684 (MAMMOTH) and mentioning the Nikita Chickita event.
