Pizol is a mid-sized ski area with 25 miles (40km) of runs for all standards served by a dozen lifts, including elderly gondolas, three modern chairs and half a dozen drag lifts. The ski centre lies above the resorts of Bad Ragaz and Wangs. The varied skiing is above the treeline, reached by gondola. The only ski route back to the village is a long black cut through the forested slopes.
Bad Ragaz is known for its thermal waters, baths and the wellness and health centres. Wangs is a picturesque village close to rail and motorway access. Both villages are low lying by modern ski resort standards at only a little over 500m and thus fit the bill of resorts likely to have to diversify away from winter sports over the next few decades according to UN reports on climate change in the Alps.
However the existing gondola does takes skiers up to 1830m wiuth skiing up to 2227m. Snowmaking, however, is limited.
Rico Bischof who works for the company's Marketing and Sales said, "Unfortunately there won't be a new gondola, instead we have to close in April 2007. We have a lot of snow but we don't have enough money for our project."
